Tatton Park

One of England's Finest Historic Estates

A day at Tatton Park has much to offer, its two historic houses, the Mansion and Tudor Old Hall, are set in 1000 acres of beautiful parkland with lakes, tree-lined avenues and herds of red and fallow deer. Award-winning gardens, a working farm, speciality shops and a superb programme of special events complete the picture.

Tatton Park is managed, maintained and financed by Cheshire County Council on behalf of the National Trust

When the last Lord Egerton of Tatton died he left behind him an estate unrivalled in its historical completeness, with a wish that it be used to educate and delight. Since then it has become one of the most visited properties in the country and the excellence of its education programme has been recognised by the award from the Heritage Education Trust of its converted Sandford Award for Heritage Education five times - an accolade secured continually since 1979.

Tatton’s Mansion is the scene for Living History sessions. These normally illustrate aspects of the life of Victorian servants, but may also be used to fit in with a topic being pursued at school. In this picture you see guests being announced at Cinderella’s Ball. These Year 1 children went into the imposing Entrance Hall, where they danced a Minuet. The whole session linked into work on costume, Beethoven and Literacy Hour skills.
